Second Body
The work “Second Body” shows edited cell phone recordings of a pair of twins on a spring walk in Leipzig's Palmengarten. The title describes an exercise from the Buddhist tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. In addition to one's own body, one chooses a second one from the community. One takes special care of this “second body.” You help it as if it were your own body when it is sick, overworked, or worried.
The second body reminds you that everything is connected to everything else and empty of an independent self. It helps you to be present in the moment. When monks and nuns leave the monastery, they always do so accompanied by a second body. Since everyone in the community seeks a second body, a circle is formed in which no one can get lost.
