moving gestures II
In late summer 2015, I was stopped by law enforcement officers at Munich Central Station when a train carrying refugees arrived. The people getting off the train were led past us to waiting buses. The exhaustion of the long journey, but also the hope of arrival, was evident on their faces. Some sought eye contact. I tried to smile, but a smile did not do justice to the situation. I wished for a gesture of compassion that was internationally recognized. A sign with which I could anonymously convey that I felt compassion for these people. The work shows various suggestions for such a gesture from people I interviewed on the street.
