Spots

The series “Spots” presents a photographic-visual approach to the burqa garment that takes a surprising turn: Where does space open up, where does the fabric thicken, how does light fall, what can I see? The differentiated observations and experiences enable encounters with the unexpected and the unfamiliar.

Time and again, the burqa becomes a symbol of political positioning and demarcation. A key argument in the debate is the role of women in religion and society. The burqas photographed from the inside evoke sacred associations that can also be interpreted in a Christian context. The question of gender equality, freedom, and justice arises once again here.

From this perspective, where can spatial and mental boundaries be drawn? Do we experience a demarcation inwardly or outwardly?
